Where can I find your ticket office?

Our ticket office is located at Garđarsbraut 7 Húsavík.

Look for our green logo and the tickets and coffee sign.

 

How can I book a tour?

You can either book directly online here, give us a call +354-4643999,
send us an e-mail at info@salkawhalewatching.is or stop by our ticket office at Garđarsbraut 7, Húsavík.

 

Is it guaranteed to see whales on every tour?

We can never guarantee a sighting on a tour, since we are sailing in wild nature.
The last few years we have had a 98% sighting rate on our tours.  If you do not see any whales on your tour we offer you to join us on another tour of your choice, depending to availability, free of charge.

 

When is the best time to see whales?

April through October is the best season for seeing whales. Every day is different regarding species and number of whales seen.

There is no research that shows one time of the day better for whale watching than another. Every tour is different and you never know what adventure awaits you.

 

What are the most common species seen on your tours?

Humpback whales, Minke whales, white beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises are the most common

species seen in Skjálfandi Bay.

 

Do I need to book in advance?

Usually you can join a tour without making a reservation beforehand. However, during the high season we recommend you to book in advance. Book  here or give us a call +354-4643999

 

Is it possible to cancel a reservation?

Yes, it is possible to cancel a reservation or reschedule without a charge. Please contact the ticket office for any cancellation or change.

 

What happens if my tour gets cancelled?

We do everything we can to get you on our next available tour. Please contact the ticket office to reschedule your reservation. If you don’t have the possibility to join one of our other tours, we will refund you the ticket.

 

What if the weather is bad?

Our captains have years of experience and they estimate weather conditions and decide if conditions are safe for our passengers. The safety and comfort of our passengers is our top priority. You will get a full refund on your ticket if we have to cancel the tour because of weather conditions. Please contact the ticket office to reschedule or get a refund.

 

How should I dress for the tour?

Dress warmly, bring a hat, gloves and good shoes. We offer every passenger a warm overall and rain coat if needed.

 

Is it okay to bring small children on board?

Yes, if weather conditions are good, bringing small children on board is not a problem. You can take a stroller on board with you if you prefer. We offer warm overalls for kids on board if needed, but we advise you to dress the kids warmly. If you have doubts, don’t hesitate to ask the crew about their recommendations.

 

Can I join the tour if I am pregnant? 

Yes, you can but since pregnant woman are often more vulnerable to sea sickness we advise you to ask about weather and sea conditions at our ticket office before the start of the tour.

 

Will I get sea sick?

It depends on weather and sea conditions and of course some people are more prone to sea sickness than others. We offer free motion sickness tablets in our ticket office, if needed.

 

Is there a toilet on board?

Yes, there is a toilet on board and also in our ticket office.

Do you accept credit cards or foreign currency?

Yes, we do accept all major credit cards and foreign currency based on current currency exchange rate.
